Defeat depression with a healthy diet

A study by Dickin University reveals that poor nutrition increases the likelihood of depression. Healthy eating can save people from this mental disorder.
Sixty-five people with moderate and severe depression participated in the study, writes Science World Report.

For the survey, in which volunteers participated, they were divided into two groups. The former was subjected to an unhealthy diet but received social support. The second one was asked to stick to a modified Mediterranean diet with a high proportion of low-fat fruits, vegetables, and meat. It turned out that the level of depression has fallen by over 30% of participants in the second group and only by 8% for volunteers from the first, according to the results of the Australian University.

American experts recommend people to adhere to that healthy diet. It is known that women who use more or less red meat in their diet than recommended are more likely to suffer from depressions and anxiety disorders than those who follow the recommended norm for this type of meat. It is rich in zinc, iron, vitamin B12. These substances reduce the risk of depression.

Doctor Drew Ramsie of Columbia University believes the results deserve attention. According to him, people who use a lot of fatfood are subjected to 60-80% of the higher risk of developing depression.

The Mediterranean diet reduces this risk by the same percentage. In addition, this diet also protects against dementia.
