Our eyes are the most important part of our health that we can't afford to neglect. More often than not, we rely on our eyes to see and also make sense of the world around us. But some eye diseases can lead to total vision loss so it is important and advisable to identify and treat eye diseases as soon as they are identified.
Just as it is important to keep your body healthy, your eyes should not left out.

COMPONENTS OF A ROUTINE EYE EXAMINATION

The reason for a routine eye examination goes beyond just acquiring spectacles and contact lenses. Different diseases for example hypertension and diabetes affects the eyes and can be detected during a comprehensive eye examination. Here are the features of a regular eye examination:

  • Case history
  • Visual acuity at far and near
  • Ocular motility test and External examination
  • Internal examination
  • Visual field screening
  • Colour vision Test
  • Tonometry (ocular pressure test)
  • Blood pressure examination
  • Refraction.

It is important to note that early detection and management of diseases and infections that may effect your sight is key in preventing total vision loss and successful therapy.

YOUR EYE HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • Use protective lens for sports, and protective goggles when necessary
  • Eat healthy
  • Get your eyes examined by a professional
  • For chemical accidents, irrigate with distilled water immediately, see your eye specialist right afterwards.
  • For penetrating injuries, go straight to the clinic; Avoid rubbing or pulling out the objects.
  • Ocular infections could be viral, bacterial, chlamydia or fungal. See a specialist for diagnosis. Don't settle for over the counter medications.
  • After trauma to the eyes, presence of floaters and flashes could indicate underlying vision threatening condition. Quick medical intervention may save the eye.
  • Refractive errors should be fully corrected to prevent accidents.
  • Be safety conscious.
