prisoner in my own body

in #health7 years ago (edited)

i'm a prisoner in my own body! we're all prisoners of one sort or another. bad habits, addiction, emotional instability, etc. - all restrict us from the freedom we desire. my prison was forged by a stroke. this has limited my ablity to walk, i'm reliant upon a wheelchair.  it has also limited the use of my left hand and arm.  it also had an side-effect of lower my threshold of annoyance so i can go from totally calm to nuclear pissed off in zero flat.  i used to be able to moderate this, but that part of my brain was damaged by the stroke.  i used to be emotionally stable, at least outwardly even if inwardly i was torrential churning sea of passion. and don't show me pictures of kittie or puppies unless you want to see some major waterworks!

i live in a nursing facility paid for by medicaid. this is another form of prison because some state bureaucrat has control over your life and you have no recourse.  and the facility isn't motivated nor interested in help you get on with your life because there's no dinancial benefit to them.  they want to keep you helpless and dependent so the cash drawer stays open.  i and many others like me are prisoners of money.  and a system that demands 'profits' as any cost - environmental, social, personal all are fodder for the beast of the ever-consuming cancerous growth of material 'wealth'.
