Stigma mental diseases
Have you notice that whenever you experience a physical disease like a broken leg, a rash or a headache you feel free to talk about it and your working colleagues, friends and boss will understand?
How about mental diseases? Do you feel free to talk about your depression, about your personality disorder or even about burn out?
It seems the more the diseases are unknown the less there is an understanding. For example people with schizophrenia can be so disabled that they cannot participate in an every day life and still they do not free to talk about it. It’s not like a broken leg where people wish you the very best.
Of course a broken leg can heal and schizophrenia can last. But what about Rheuma ? And lupus ? And other chronic diseases? Even Parkinson can have such a great impact that your mental peace is at stake.
What is your view on mental diseases? Do you understand them? Do you have people with which you can talk about them? Or are you afraid? Don’t have any information about them?
