Health Info: A longer walking bout is more beneficial!
It is recommended to walk 30 minutes daily at a faster pace, not just a leisurely stroll. If anyone wants a break, he/she can take a two-day break in a week! That means one should walk 5 days a week and 30 minutes daily, totaling the recommended 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise. One flexibility a person can have is that he/she can walk for 15 minutes at a time 2 twice in a 24-hour period! A walking bout of 15 minutes or longer is the most beneficial, a new study indicates that!
The study was conducted on 33,560 participants! The data of their walking activities were extracted from the UK Biobank! According to the length of their walking bouts, they were placed in 4 groups:
Less than 5-minute walking bouts
More than 5 but < 10 minute walking bouts
More than 10 but < 15-minute walking bouts, and
More than 15 minutes walking bouts
They were followed up for almost 8 years. The research showed that people from the 5-minute walking bouts had the greatest risk of cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality! The longer the walking bouts, the lower the risks!
