Cervicogenic Headache: Causes, Symptoms and First Aid.
Headache is a common problem in our daily life. However, its causes and treatment vary depending on the type of headache. Cervicogenic Headache is a specific type of headache that is mainly caused by neck problems. It usually starts from the back of the neck and head and spreads to the front.
Causes of Cervicogenic Headache
The main cause of Cervicogenic Headache is neck problems, which are caused by various reasons. This headache can occur if the neck muscles and bones are damaged due to an accident or sudden injury. Sitting and working incorrectly for a long time can cause tension in the neck muscles, which can cause headaches. If there is prolonged stress and anxiety, the neck becomes stiff, which can cause this headache.
Symptoms of Cervicogenic Headache
Usually, there is a feeling of constant pain on one side of the head, which comes from the neck to the front of the head. Moving the neck too much increases the pain and causes discomfort in the neck and shoulders. Pain is felt around the eyes, which often causes vision problems. Sometimes nausea occurs and a feeling of dizziness may occur.
Primary treatment of Cervicogenic Headache
There are some effective methods for treating Cervicogenic Headache. For example, sitting properly while working on the computer, and taking regular breaks are very important. In addition, physiotherapy helps reduce neck and work pain. Regular neck and shoulder exercises every day reduce pain a lot. Massage therapy is very effective in relaxing the muscles of the neck and shoulders. Painkillers can be taken, but medication should not be taken without a doctor's advice. Applying a hot water bag or ice pack helps reduce pain a lot. Getting enough sleep and meditating will reduce stress, which helps reduce headaches.
My personal experience
From my personal experience, Cervicogenic Headache is quite common in my life. I face this type of headache several times a month. It usually increases when my workload is high or I sit in one place for a long time.
When I face such problems, I follow some things which help a lot in reducing the pain. After working for a long time, I try to take a break of 10 to 15 minutes and close my eyes and rest, which reduces the headache. Sometimes, having hot water reduces the headache. Sometimes, I drink coffee or tea, which gives me relief. Headaches can also be prevented by drinking enough water.
Both Cervicogenic Headache and Tension Headache are very common problems. However, it is possible to reduce this type of headache to a great extent by following a proper lifestyle and getting enough rest. But if the headache is regular and lasts for a long time, then you should definitely consult a doctor.
