Warning from Jesus: Don't let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Luke 21:34

The Gospel of Luke describes Jesus' last teachings about the Kingdom of God before he was arrested on the Mount of Olives. And the Gospel of Luke relates that Jesus, while in the temple of Jerusalem, spoke like the prophet Daniel in his book about times that are yet to be fulfilled. It can be said that the Gospel of Luke contains within itself, in its ending, the account of a small apocalypse, as a prelude to the book written by the disciple of Jesus, and prophet, named John.
And this little apocalypse written by Luke is a warning from Jesus, because like the seed that falls among thorns, those who receive the word and do not have the constancy or firmness to put it into practice end up falling, dominated by the worries of this world and the love for money. An intellectual understanding of God's wisdom is useless if that wisdom cannot first penetrate hearts. This is why Jesus was so incisive in his teachings when describing a future temporarily dominated by destruction before his second coming to the world, the Parousia. Living attentively, discerning the times, is a requirement in the teachings of the divine master.
This is the reason why Lord Jesus, with great wisdom, gave this important spiritual warning to his disciples and listeners: "Don't let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don't let that day catch you unaware, like a trap. For that day will come upon everyone living on the earth" Luke 21:34-35.
Accepting the path of Jesus, the path of righteousness ("So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you" Matthew 7:12), is a lifelong commitment that Christians should not abandon for petty gains or pleasures. Only in this way can one live spiritually prepared and thus fulfill that eschatological hope. The Kingdom of God, the empire or government of the divine perfections, as Jesus foretold, will arrive unexpectedly, like a thief in the night, and only those who have made fruitful the gifts received, as in the parable of the talents, will be able to appear victorious before the Lord Jesus.
