Heavy Metal, Los Angeles and Brazilian Food.
At the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s, Heavy Metal began to surface all around the U.K, specifically in Birmingham. Amidst the soot of the factories and industrial areas, bands such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple e Black Sabbath were born. Sharing the same sense of frustration with all at that time, caused by the Vietnam war, the exhaustion of flower power, and anti-violence movements.
Led Zeppelin
A track from the 4th studio album, Led Zeppelin IV, 1971. Considered one of the best rock songs of all time.Deep Purple
One of the most famous and frequently played rock guitar riffs.Metal groups were the antithesis of the hippy, optimistic, and romantic style of other rock groups of there time. Their lyrics expressed the reality of working class people, and addressed issues such as occultism, terrorism, and political anti-war speeches.
Black Sabbath
The letter about leaders who instigated war, caused death a destruction, but who stopped receiving their punishment, was released at the time of the Vietnam war. They were among the first English metal bands to popularise this genre and inspire the rise of american artists such as Metallica and Megadeath in early 1980’s LA. Black Sabbath brought their musical aggression to America, as well as founding ‘The Big Four of Trash’ alongside Slayer and Anthrax.
Metallica
Released in 1992 as the 3rd song on ‘The Black Album’ (Metallica’s 5th studio album), it is one of the groups original tracks.Megadeth
One of the first tracks from ‘Rust in Peace’, widely conseidered one of the best metal albums ever.Metal was profoundly influenced by punk and goth. The long hair was a distinguishing feature of this style, symbolising the hate, anxiety, and illusion felt by the generation. Metal groups would often use bright colours and different styles of instrument in order to boost their stage presence.
Los AngelesLocated in California, Los Angeles is the second most populated city in the United States. A multicultural region, made up of immigrants from various cultures, it became one of the most popular destinations for Brazilians thanks to its diversity and modernity.
LA is a place teeming with art, becoming famous in the 20th century as the destination of aspiring stars and the birthplace of the biggest and best film studios. Today, different forms of artistic expression fill the city streets. Even the walls explode with colour, forever giving life to the City of Angles.
Keeping busy in LA is easy with such diversity in the local culture, but for Brazilians who, after so much multiculturalism just wanted to feel at home, opened a few restaurants where they made it possible to feel as though they have actually returned to Brazil.
The themed street decorations will instantly transport you to Brazil, where the breakfast is outright breathtaking, and healthy enough to get you through your morning exercise routine. You can also find traditional bowls of açai, which will make you feel like you’re sat on the beaches of Ubatuba, Brazil.
The first Brazilian snack bar to reach the streets of Los Angeles. Running the food truck is a family team, made up of Mum Ilse and her twin daughters Juliana e Jaqueline, who serve authentic homemade Brazilian dishes. The menu offers everything from salted snacks, such as coxinhas and pastéis, to heartier meals, such as Brazilian style hot dogs, hamburgers and burritos.
This establishment and all it’s employees will really draw you in to try their delicious feijoada (rice and bean dish) and their irresistible fish stew. Cantinho Brasileiro brings a real passion for homemade food, as well as simple, healthier options and hearty meals, the kind widely available across Brazil’s bars, open markets and cafés.
