The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 45, Post #2

Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Genesis 45:5-9

We saw the big reveal last week, when Joseph let his brothers know that he himself was the ruler that has been selling them grain and asking about the other brothers in the family. I am sure they were shocked and maybe even thought about the dreams they had hated him for when they were in the fields talking about his dreams.

Now he is offering them shalom (peace) for their souls and telling them to that it was all in YHVH's plan to begin with in order that many nations would eat throughout the famine.

He tells them about the course of the famine and how many years there are left to go. He expresses to them that it was not them, but God, who sent him to Mitsraim (Egypt). It is wonderful how God had given him that gift and the dreams to go with it so that many would be saved. It is also the story of redemption, forgiveness and reconciliation for him and his brothers, which is a picture of the kingdom and the Creator's plan and will for our relationship with him through Mashiach

Today's reading

English

And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors. So it was not you who sent me here, but God. He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house and ruler over all the land of Egypt.
