The MH-53M Pave Low IV was the U.S. Air Force's most advanced heavy-lift helicopter for special operations, designed for long-range, all-weather infiltration/exfiltration, and rescue.

Retired in 2008 after serving in Vietnam, Desert Storm, and Iraq, it was known as the largest, most powerful helicopter in the AFSOC fleet.

Mission: Specialized in low-level, night, and adverse weather operations to insert/extract special operations forces.
Upgrades: The "M" model featured the Interactive Defensive Avionics System/Multi-Mission Advanced Tactical Terminal (IDAS/MATT), which provided instant, real-time battlefield intelligence, allowing for in-flight rerouting to avoid threats.
Armament: Typically armed with three 7.62mm miniguns or .50-caliber machine guns.
Performance: Capable of speeds up to 196 mph, with a maximum takeoff weight of 46,000 lbs.
Survivability: Included armor plating, self-sealing fuel tanks, and enhanced countermeasures.

The MH-53M was replaced by the CV-22 Osprey. Examples are on display at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force and the Museum of Aviation at Robins AFB.
