Before going to start today's task I would like to congratulate @jyoti-thelight for being selected as contest organiser in SLC-S30. I hope we'll learn new.

Let's move towards the contest task

What is traditional steam cooking? Why is it considered healthy? (2 Marks)

When food is cooked by hot water vapours instead of boling, frying or cooking in a pan. A hot water is placed in a pan and food is placed over this water bath in container, mold ,leaf, foils . Food is not directly heated and this type of cooking is called steam cooking.

Steam Cooking is an healthy option for cooking. As it cooking on steam so no oil is used to xook it, food is not cooked directly so many vitamins like B and C don't leach in water like boiling. Due to less heat during cooking does not allow delate vitamin from food. Its light and digestive.

Make the Idlis that is shared in the course or make it as per your style, with a detailed step-by-step procedure along with images. (5 Marks)

Today I'm making Idlis first time so I'm following the same recipe that is given by teacher. I don't have Idlis molds do I'm using bowl to make it.
Let's start today's recipe

Ingredients:

Urat dal 1/2cup
Salt 1/2tsp
Fenugreek seeds 1tsp

  • to make batter grind the soaked urad dal, rice, and fenugreek seeds with grinder .Then, cover the container and put the batter in a cool place for at least 8 hours. you will see a foam on it. This means that the dough is at the right stage. As I'm making it first time so my baitter was not perfect. Or i did some mistake in ratio. My Idlis was not fluffy that Indians make. But taste was good.

  • I start boiling water in my steamer first to steam baitter. Then i put Idlis baitter in a bowl as i don't have Idlis molds. Put it in steamer for 12-15 minutes then Idlis is done.

  • When it cool down take out from bowl. Now Idlis is ready to serve with Samber. I don't make sambar I served it with chuttni.
