Shri Harmandir Sahib 'Golden Temple' is the historical place in Amritsar, Punjab, India

The Gurudwara Sri Harmandir Sahib is known as Sri Darbar Sahib or Golden Temple. The Golden Temple is the most sacred and beautiful gurudwara of the Sikh community located in Amritsar Punjab India.

Shri Harmandir Sahib or Golden Temple is very amazing and beautiful to see because it has layers of gold on its walls. Everyday millions of tourists from India and around the world arrive to see the beauty of Shri Harmandir Sahib and feel the sanctity. The first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak, and the fifth Guru Arjun Sahib Ji themselves designed the architecture of Shri Harmandir Sahib.Before that, the third Nanak, Shri Guru Amar Das Sahib, had talked about building the Golden Temple in Amritsar or Amrit Sarovar. But to get it constructed, Guru Ramdas Sahib Ji donated the land, due to which the construction of the Golden Temple was completed. The construction of Sri Harmandir Sahib started in 1570 which was completed in 1577 AD. Shri Harmandir Sahib has been constructed in the middle of the holy tank and Adi Granth has been installed in it, which is the holy book of Sikhism.

The Akal Takht is also present inside Shri Harmandir Sahib, which is also considered to be the home of the sixth Guru, Shri Hargovind. Shri Harmandir Sahib was built by all religions to worship God in peace together. Arjuna, the Guru of Sikhism, invited the Muslim Sufi saint, Hazrat Mian Mir, to lay the foundation stone of Shri Harmandir Sahib, to place before the people the sign of the universality of non-sect Sikhism. Everyday lakhs of people come to worship Shri Harmandir Sahib and all people join hands to anchor the gurudwara. Everyday millions of people are fed free food in these langars. The langar is organized not only in the Golden Temple but also in almost all gurdwaras in India where thousands of people are served free food. Today's Harmandir Sahib Gurdwara was rebuilt in 1764 by Jassa Singh Ahluwalia with the help of Sikhs. In the early 19th century, Maharaja Ranjit Singh protected the Punjab region from external invasion and he covered the upper floors of the gurudwara with 750 kg of gold. During Operation Blue Star in 1984, a lot of the temple was damaged and destroyed. Operation Blue Star was supposed to expose terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his other terrorist accomplices in Shri Harmandir Sahib. Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was killed in Operation Blue Star but during this encounter, Akal Takht and many beautiful buildings of the temple were destroyed. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated in October and many anti-Sikh riots took place in 1984 itself.

Rules for tourists : Like all Gurudwaras of the world, Shri Harmandir Sahib Gurudwara is also open to all religions, castes and people of the province. When you go inside the Harmandir Sahib or visit it, it is very important to take care of some things.
