Manifest Destiny, God Given Rights, and The Trail of Tears...

Trail Of Tears - 21 Minutes

Most people in the United States tend to believe we’re ahead of the rest of the world when it comes to the rights of our citizens. We criticize and publicly admonish other countries when they violate the civil rights of their people, but we often turn a blind eye when the abuses are carried out right here on our own soil. There’s no shortage of oppressed groups here in the US, the list is seemingly endless of groups of people who have been attacked by the government, media, and most notably, law enforcement agencies.

One group that’s often overlooked in these discussions is the oppression of the Native American population. Since the very first days of our republic, Native Americans have been pushed aside quite literally to make way for wealthy white land owners. We stripped them of land that they lived on for centuries, in order to create new settlements and expand our territories. In the century's since that time, things haven’t got any better.

On May 28, 1830 the US Congress passed the Indian Removal Act which forced Native Americans from their homeland’s in the eastern and southern United States to the western part of the country. It’s this piece of legislation that led to the infamous Trail of Tears where Native Americans were forced to migrate to the west, and thousands died along the way of exposure, disease, and malnutrition.

The reason the government did this is because gold was discovered on native land in 1829, and the government wanted to get their hands on that gold. Now fast forward almost 200 years, and we still see similar scenarios playing out with Native Americans and their land rights with the Dakota Access Pipeline Project. When the Standing Rock Sioux attempted to halt the unnecessary construction of the pipeline through their sacred land, they were met by federal agents who did everything in their power to push protesting Native Americans off the site, therefore off their own lands.

The land rights of the Standing Rock Sioux were completely ignored so that the oil company Energy Transfer Partners LP, could strike black gold on their property. This is almost an everyday occurrence in the relationship between the federal government and Native Americans. Native Americans have consistently been treated like second class citizens by the federal government, and whatever they believe they own, has always been considered there for the taking by the US Government.

After all, shame on them for being on our land before we got here.
This sentiment is more widespread than you might think.

Everyone should really take the time to watch this video - a little perspective goes a long way...

I here you brother as a decendant of a person whow was rejected on the Daws rolls of1898.. my great grandmother Lived and died on indian teritorty in eastern Oklahoma.. its a riggedd system. and people are nieve to think how equal we are and have been in the past. thanks for bringing this to light.

I didn't know what you were referring to, so I did a little research into the Dawes Rolls - it's another perfect example of the US government subjugating native populations. The thing that stood out the most (for me) is how they were referred to as "The Five Civilized Tribes" for their apparent forced acceptance of so called "civilization".

Whats more civilized - people who live off the land, using only what's required for survival, in harmony with nature - or people who will lie, cheat, and steal, exploit every resource for profit, take whatever they want, and destroy anything that gets in their way... Hmmm...

What did you mean by "rejected on the Dawes Rolls" - her tribe was rejected, or as an individual was rejected... ?

the 5 civilized tribes came from some of the most productive agriculture and wildlife rich area of the original colinies.. moved to a windy aired wasteland..."trail of tears". and the Dawes rolls where welfare and alot of indiginouse people of north america where to proud to put there mark on the Burrow of indian affairs list. and now there ancesters are missing out on all that reperasion and casino money.

A little more reading led me Here where you can search for persons accepted and on the final rolls, and the applications of persons who were rejected.

and now there ancesters are missing out on all that reperasion and casino money.

Most of the "wealthier" tribes are accepting DNA as proof of tribal heritage - as long as it shows at least a 25% bloodline... Some now accept as low as 1/16 bloodline - at least for membership and partial benefits from the tribe...

Get that dam $$$ brother...

Thanks for the comment & conversation @romanaround - I really like researching and discussing this topic... I spent a good part of my early childhood on the Six Nations Res. - one of the few non Indian's then or since... I still look back on it as the greatest time in my life...

By now I'm sure many read your post, maybe I'm wrong, I wish I am... No one want to aproche this kind of subjects, god forbid, don't wanna be marginalized! I totally agree with you,and I stand for that, my Thanksgiving is with Natives Originals!

Not as many readers as I would like @abbak7 - but i'll take em... I agree this is a touchy subject for many in the US - unfortunately this is just another horrible injustice on the Native Americans...

Thanks for the comment...

Maybe Columbo wasn't on the right path after all...

Hi @positivity420 ...
The video paints a vastly different picture of Columbus than what we have been taught... Genocidal madman more closely describes the reality for him and his brother...

Thanks for the comment...

Thanks for the post.
I love very much this native american wise quote "When the last tree is cut down, the last fish eaten, and the last stream poisoned, you will realize that you cannot eat money"

One of my favorites also... True in every respect @cemke...

Thanks for the comment... :)

The injustices the bankster/lawyers have perpetrated on indigenous populations around the world are unbelievable. Look what is going on in Australia today. The children of the aborigines are taken from their homes and imprisoned on an island in order to break their spirit and quash their heritage. The same thing happened in the US to the native tribes of this land.

Unless the sheeple wake up these atrocities will continue until all native cultures have been destroyed.

Thanks @drdave for bringing this issue to light.

Hey Doc...

Look what is going on in Australia today.

Gives me the shivers to think in 2018, there's basically a variation of "ethnic cleansing" in Australia. I've been reading a lot about this lately and IMHO it's no less of a crime than if they were to line people up and execute them...

Thanks for the comment @doc.hodes - and keep them awesome pics coming... :)
