I'm pretty certain there are species we haven't yet discovered or thought were extinct in our deepest lakes.
Look at the Wollemi Pine. Meant to be dead for 100,000,000 years.
Found alive and well in the Blue Mountains outside Sydney in '96
Pine trees can't run away...
There's undoubtedly much more frightening creatures!
