1.1238 The Mongols burn the Russian city of Vladimir

2.1842 Battle of Debre Tabor: Ras Ali Alula, Regent of the Emperor of Ethiopia
defeats warlord Wube Haile Maryam of Semien

3.1668 The Netherlands, England and Sweden conclude an alliance
directed against Louis XIV of France.

4.1913 The Turks lose 5,000 men in a battle with the Bulgarian army in Gallipoli.

5.1992 Maastricht Treaty signed by 12 countries from
the European Community (EC) to create the European Union (EU)

6.1991 The IRA launches a mortar attack on 10 Downing Street during a cabinet meeting.

7.1917 The British steamer California is sunk off the coast of Ireland by a German U-boat.

8.1931 Amelia Earhart weds George Putnam in Connecticut.

9.1944 The Germans launch a second attack against the Allied beachhead at Anzio, Italy. They hoped to push the Allies back into the sea.

10.1983 Iran opens an invasion in the southeast of Iraq.
