I see your wife's surname is Gent. My mother's maiden name is Van Gent. They came to South-Africa from the Netherlands, just after WWII. Do you think there is a relationship between Gent and Van Gent? Here in South Africa there are almost no people with the 2 above mentioned surnames. As far as I have it Gent is a town in Belgium.
I think although records don't exist that I know off The Gent name originated from Ghent and I would expect we came from that area. We could off cause just have got the name from being High born A Gent but I have no way of telling. The DNA tests they do on Ancestry might show my origin but I am not sure how good they are.
