RE: Why NZ 6207, the first of the six Skyhawks that the RNZAF lost, crashed at Bulls on 18 Oct 1974

in #history8 years ago

I still remember this.

Sitting in the classroom and hearing a BOOM and looking out the window to see a man in a parachute coming down beside the school.

I remember one of the fire engines (the Pink Panther maybe?) driving through the boundary fence of the school.

We wren't allowed outside, but everyone in the classroom knew what had happened. We were air force brats. We were used to skyhawks flying overhead during school hours.

So a big bang and a parachute was a clear signal to us that something had gone very wrong.

He did a good job missing the school though.

You liked skyhawks and big bangs,

when you say - liked, i think you have a different meaning in mind ;-)

I like them fine enough when they are banging somewhere else - not three feet above my head ;-)

Only you and Mum know how much you liked the 20mm cannons being checked right above your head. I think it took a three or four of washes to remove the evidence.

Now the whole of Steemit knows how much he liked the cannons. Nice one, Len!

Well he told the story first. At the time he said that my version would come, it's just that I am a bit slower these days

Aw, mate, we're all a bit slower these days... Except Trevor, who's making us all look bad.
