RE: Atheists More Likely to Own a Cat than Church-Goers 🐈

in Threespeak6 years ago

That's an interesting bit of research @atheistrepublic, and whereas there's potentially some correlation there, I have a feeling the conclusions drawn from the data are a little "off," at least with respect to cats.

More likely, this sounds like an extension of a very old truism: "Dogs are the choice of politicians, soldiers and lawyers; cats are the choice of artists, poets and dreamers."

How is that significant? Churches and religions are ultimately control mechanisms and the root psychological profiles of people who are willing to be (or exert) controlled are more in alignment with dogs, who are highly trainable and controllable, while cats are very independent and pretty much do "their own thing, on their own time," perhaps more in alignment with the root psychology of someone who rejects dogma and structure.

Just thought I'd submit that, for consideration!
