The AWESOME Raptorfly!

Hello there! I'm an Entomologist from South Africa!

This Raptorfly - Ochthera sp - is one of my favorite genera as it goes above and beyond the common beliefs that flies are only scavengers. As most of them are scavengers people often miss the more obscure and rare species such as Ochthera! The Raptorfly is a specialized predator with a specific taste for Mosquitos and they can thus be found on the sandy shores where they hunt for their favourite prey!
