At first, little princess Kusumasana Devi had to run away from her palace with her parents to Portuguese in order to save lives from king Sithawaka Mayadunne. Then she lost her both parents since they got Smallpox and died.But fortunately Portuguese took a good care of her and she embraced Catholics with the new name Dhona Katharina. The intention of Portuguese was to marry her to a Portuguese man and take the throne but kind, decent and beautiful princess didn't fall into that trap.
Though she was crowned as the queen of Kandy by Portuguese after winning a war, prince Konappu Bandara was able to take that crown by defeating Portuguese. Then prince became the king with the name Vimaladharmasooriya i and he married the little princess when she was only 13 years old. Then they got 2 daughters and a one son from that marriage and she has assisted to king to built Temple of tooth though she was Catholic. But after the death of king Vimaladharmasooriya i by getting poisoned, Kusumasana Devi had to face so many troubles.
She had to marry her least favorite person in the whole world the prince Senarath who was a cousin of her former husband and who had gotten out from living as a monk. They got 3 sons from that marriage.Not only King Senarath killed her son from her first marriage but also he raped her two daughters constantly. But as daughters were friendly with the king since they had no idea about being raped, poor pregnant Kusumasana Devi left the palace without daughters but only with the dead son's ashes to her favorite place Walimanthota palace which was built by her first husband for her.
Helpless queen was so depressed about all these chaos that she died at age 36. Her last will was to bury her dead body and keep son's ashes pot, bible and her pink necklace which were her most beloved 3 things near her dead body. Though one daughter got away with a man, the other daughter had to spend a sad life as king Senarath's wife. So, Kusumasana Devi is the unluckiest queen undoubtedly and also don't this story make her daughters as the unluckiest princessess in our history as well?
She famous character because of song "parasidu karaliyedda".Interest thing is she started her life very young.

I love history so much. Yes I have heard that song before. There was also a teledrama about her too. Don't exactly know whether her first husband really loved her or not though. Her second husband must be the king with worst ethics in sl history.
This is the first time that I revealed about such kind of a horrible and sad history in our dynasty. This is really interesting to read though I am not interest about the Sri Lankan history.
Yes has spent a horrible life though she was a queen. There are many songs about her too.
Have read queen Anula's story? She was a serial killer who killed 30 men and had a great lust about handsome men. Her story is even more interesting.
