Response (Music Themed 5-Minute Freewrite Challenge)

in Qurator3 years ago

I just discussed on my recent music freewrites about those boybands having a difficult time to break the American market. There are many artists who made such attempts, not just boybands, as it is a fulfillment for them to score a hit (or hits) in the region. Even Robbie Williams, who was extremely successful worldwide, tried to focus in the US market but received moderate response from the country.

Regarding the boybands I mentioned previously, they had potentials but the US music listeners may not be ready for them. I know there are radio stations which doesn't care about boybands but it doesn't mean music fans won't ever accept non-American boybands. Back in 2011, One Direction became the biggest boyband of their time, and became very successful in the US. Some may say they have Simon Cowell's backing, and that they became a part of UK X Factor, but it's rare for a singer or a group from such talent shows making it big in the markets including US. One Direction are no Backstreet Boys nor NSYNC. They don't do choreography like the two boybands but they managed to sell in the US, as people has been responsive for pop acts like them.

5 Seconds of Summer, who are from Australia, achieved success in the US too. 5SOS may have be playing instruments, but they're somewhat considered to be following the One Direction footsteps, and they got good response from music listeners. The band scored three number 1 albums in the US, and peaked at number 2 twice. They even defeated Jay Z and Beyonce power duo release as The Carters at Billboard 200 albums chart. Let's not ignore their several Billboard Hot 100 hits. All those chart successes made the band as one of the biggest Australian artists in music history.
