Legacy of Kain - A dark saga, but at the same time brilliant in video games

Over the years, various developers bring us video games that are considered cult or outstanding in terms of their plot and history, this makes them unique and almost impossible to beat in this aspect. Digging a little bit in the past we can find titles that fit this profile, one of them is the Legacy of Kain saga.

For many gamers of yesteryear Legacy of Kain is one of the video game sagas with a very interesting story, which is composed of 5 games that narrate through two different characters events. At the end they are united through the last title where all the questions are solved.

Most people remember Legacy of Kain for his most famous video game called Soul Reaver, however, this story goes back years, when the video game Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain was released in 1996, which tells the story of a human named Kain who was betrayed and driven by his thirst for revenge is turned into a vampire in order to annihilate his former race.

The story in this first video game may seem simple, but as you go through it, you realize certain things that will help you understand the events of Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain released in 2002, which continues exactly the plot of its predecessor and complements the story of the protagonist Kain.

The saga gets more interesting when the most remembered video game called Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver enters the scene, placing us after 1500 years of the events of the first video game. Here we control Raziel, a vampire that shows a superior evolution to Kain's. He decides to kill him out of jealousy, throwing him into the lake of the dead.

Here the body of Raziel passes to the spectral field and decides to seek revenge against his former master, but to achieve this he must kill several of his brothers who will give him the power necessary to face Kain. This story continues in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 released in 2001. Here the argument gets complicated, since Raziel decides to look for answers from his past, finding interesting things.

Finally, the denouement is in the last videogame called Legacy of Kain: Defiance released in 2003, where we can manipulate Kain and Raziel, clarifying all our doubts about all the previous games, improving the mechanics inside the game as well as its technical and graphic section.

At one point, work was underway on a sixth installment called Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun, which would be released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC consoles. The development company in charge of bringing this game to life was Climax Studios and it would be published by Square Enix, however, this company decided to cancel this video game and dedicate more time to other franchises like Tomb Raider.

I recommend the Legacy of Kain saga to anyone who loves Gothic, as well as those who are passionate about vampire stories and time travel, all these elements are contained in a perfect way in these video games, which are still playable today.

If you've never played this saga and you're curious about its great story you can get it for Microsoft Windows from the first to the fifth installment, personally I recommend it, because it's 5 very well made games, you just have to take into account the timelines, so I recommend playing first Kain's games and then Raziel's.
