The Regent Launches the Bireuen Struggle Museum.
The Regent of Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province, H. Mukhlis, ST, launched the Bireuen Struggle Museum, organized by the Aceh Region I Cultural Preservation Center (BPK), at the Regent's Hall on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
The inauguration ceremony concluded with the signing of an inscription by the Regent of Bireuen, accompanied by Irini Dewi Wanti from the Ministry of Culture, the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), the Aceh Museum Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD), and the Head of the Aceh Region I Cultural Preservation Center.
The Head of the Bireuen Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud), Dr. Muslim, MSi, stated in a report that the inaugurated building, the Bireuen Struggle Museum, is not simply a relic of the past.
Rather, it is a cultural heritage site with extraordinary historical value. This place was once the residence of Colonel Husein Yusuf, as well as the headquarters of the X Division of the Sumatra Command, and was a crucial witness when President Sukarno visited and stayed here to consolidate the defense of the Republic of Indonesia's independence.
Given its significant historical value, the Ministry of Culture revitalized the Bireuen Pendopo building in 2023 and 2024. Upon completion of the revitalization process, the building was designated a Cultural Heritage Site by the Regent of Bireuen through Regent Decree No. 400.6.2.2/304 of 2025.
We hope that the Bireuen Struggle Museum will not only be a repository for historical objects, but also a vibrant learning space, a center for cultural activities, and a source of inspiration for the younger generation to understand the value of struggle and appreciate their own culture.
"Hopefully, with the establishment of this museum, the spirit of struggle and national values that once burned brightly in Bireuen will continue to burn brightly and be passed down from generation to generation," he explained.
In his remarks, the Regent of Bireuen, H. Mukhlis, ST, stated that the Bireuen Regency Government is committed to making this museum a center for history-based cultural preservation, a place where the public can learn about the struggle, learn about their identity, and foster a love for their region.
"We hope that schoolchildren, students, and the wider community will come here not only to view the collection, but also to experience the fighting spirit of our predecessors. We all have the same responsibility: to ensure that these historical and cultural values do not fade over time," he said.
Meanwhile, Irini Dewi Wanti, Director of Human Resources, Institutions, and Cultural Institutions, Directorate General of Cultural Development, Utilization, and Fostering, Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, said:
This museum of people's struggle is a historic building, not only representing the Acehnese people represented by Bireuen Regency, but also the Indonesian nation's struggle to maintain independence, one of the symbols of which is found in Bireuen.
Irini hopes that this museum will also be visited by schoolchildren, students, and the general public, who want to explore documents or traces of the Indonesian nation's struggle.
The Ministry of Culture official also emphasized that history is a reflection of the nation's identity. Therefore, a budget should be allocated for this museum, not only for the central government but also for regional governments, she said.
