My dad Doug Taggerty with Metro Dade Police Department in 1966. He was assigned to Miami International Airport in this photo. He also served as officer friendly, the eye in the sky, PBA board member and whatever else he could volunteer for. He was a great cop that loved Miami-Dade County. He made a lot of history in his 33 year career and helped a lot of people.

He was just returned to civilian life (1966) after he was drafted in the Army. He was involved with a major FBI/bank shoot out in 1986, most every riot that occurred in South Florida he responded to. He responded to plane crashes, helped resolve the “canal murders”, a hijacked school bus and led a big investigation for a child torture chamber/murder case. He also worked in prison ministries and always raised lots of money for the March of Dimes to help those in need.

He retired in 1996. Everywhere we went in Miami, somebody knew him. We still drive across Florida, and someone seems to know him! He is a neat part of our Miami/Florida history and we are glad to have him as our pops! I wanted to share his story.
He is loving his retirement and continues to give back to the community daily.

This is a true historical story
