Writing || The Wheel of Education is no longer like it used to be (after the disaster)
Dear friends, admins, and all moderators of this beloved community. May we always be under His protection!
"The wheels of education are no longer what they used to be" (post-disaster) is a major challenge for the world of education, especially in our province of Aceh, Indonesia. Following the floods that struck this region some time ago, education, especially in schools, has become increasingly disrupted.
However, the government, through collaboration with various parties, continues to ensure that educational services continue, focusing on safety, psychological recovery, and the continuity of the teaching and learning process according to conditions on the ground.
Following the natural disaster of flash floods, thousands of schools were damaged and teaching and learning activities were disrupted. In response to this situation, our school, which was less severely affected by the flooding than other schools, was able to remain open for students to take their first-term exams.
Following the floods, we only opened for one week, allowing students to come in for the exams, in accordance with the directives of our district's Education and Culture Office.
However, this year's exams were different from those in previous years, given the unfavorable conditions and situation following the disaster. After the exams, students, as were teachers, were given a break. There was no "quiet week" or "report card" completion for the time being. Currently, education providers are providing teachers with some flexibility, allowing them to complete report cards at the beginning of the next semester and distribute them to students as needed.
This semester, the school was also unable to award trophies to high-achieving students at each grade level. This is understandable for both students and parents.
The wheels of education are no longer what they used to be (post-disaster). Hopefully, this province can recover and recover, so that the wheels of education can run as they should.
