Greetings everyone!

I am delighted to be in your community for this contest. The focus of this week's contest could not have been more appropriate. It will afford many people the opportunity to project to the world the unique advantages Steemit brings on board as a social engagement platform which other platforms are lacking. I wish there'll be a future contest allowing users talk about the things they wish Steemit could have to make it even better, compared to other social media platforms. Till, then, let me go straight into the topic in focus.

Introduction

In general usage, social media platforms are those websites and computer applications that allow people to create personalized accounts from where they can create digital contents and/or can share digital contents with people on their network and/or the general public. Their network here would be people they are following or who are following them or who subscribe to the same online group or community on the particular social media platform.

There are many social media platforms. Prominent among them are Webo, Facebook, Twitter, Steemit, and Hive. What makes social media platforms exciting to use is that it allows people find other people and connect with them, share original or "copied" information, and respond to other people's publications through like or upvotes and comments or replies. These features make their usage immersive and entertaining. But besides the entertainment potential of social media platforms, they can also be used for commerce and education. In recent times, activists and politicians have also found it very potent in influencing public opinion.

My frequently used Social Media

As an academic, I use social media often, but not the ones which are popular among bloggers and entertainers and the general fun seeking public. I use the ones which are famous among educators and researchers. These include LinkedIn, Academia.edu and Researchgate. Among these, the academic social media platform I use the most is LinkedIn.

Why I love using LinkedIn is because it allows me connect with friends and colleagues around the world and share information about our work, new opportunities, new researches and at times we just hang out and chat about life and contemporary issues. Like other academic social media platforms, LinkedIn affords people the opportunity to share not just socially gratifying contents but intellectually stimulating and life-changing scientific contents. A perfect way to have fun changing the world!

The benefits of spending more time on steemit

I have cause to believe that spending more time on steemit can be more beneficial.

  • For one thing, like other social media platforms that have come of age and risen to fame, Steemit has the potential to grow into a robust global community of people from all walks of life.

  • Secondly, Steemit brings to social networking the innovation of incentivizing content creation and sharing. This is something other social media platforms are lacking.

  • Another factor that makes Steemit more promising is the fact that it brings together people from various educational and professional backgrounds. This would greatly support life-wide learning which we advocate in the academia as the best approach to learning in today's dynamic and complex world.

In view of these capabilities, I believe I would personally gain more from using Steemit more frequently than other social media platforms.

Steemit versus other social media platforms

All social media platforms have their unique advantages and peculiar disadvantages. The following are a handful of such advantages that readily come to my mind.

Use of markdown for formatting: Steemit provides an intuitive way of formatting your posts to add beauty and flavours using markdowns. This is a feature most other social media platforms do not have.

Curation rewards: Steemit rewards users for engaging in people's publications or posts through upvotes and downvotes and replies or comments. So as users of Steemit find and validate original and meaningful contents on Steemit, the both add value to the platform and derive incentives for doing so. Most other social networks don't provide for this benefit, no mater how qualitative or quantitative the posts might be. But here in Steemit, the reward provided for both authors and curators are mouthwatering, to say the least.

Verification through Communities: Steemit provides a unique way if pooling people with identical interests into communities. Like most other social media platforms, joining communities can be done through a simple subscription process. But unlike most other social media where anyone, even "ghosts" can join groups anonymously, Steemit offers communities the tools needed to check and verify anyone subscribing to join their communities and tagging them appropriately. I remember a time I .Ade a post in one of the communities in Steemit without prior identification and verification from the community. The admin contacted me and demanded that I follow their verification process which I did and thereafter they supported my post and welcomed me to the community. Most other social media platforms lack this gatekeeping function.

Conclusion

Steemit is a unique social media platform with the potential to rival and even overtake the ones currently leading in terms of number of users. Beyond financial incentives, there ar many facets of Steemit that makes it stand out among the rest which I have highlighted above. I would encourage more people to rather sign-up and use Steemit for their social networking needs.

Urdu Community Curation is laughable.
Club (100)=1/2 (50%) if club 100 scores 1/2 which club would u give 2/2?
Quality of content =1/3 (33.3%) what are your yardsticks for quality in opinion articles please?
300 words = 0.75/1 (75%) If 883 words out of a minimum of 300 scores 0.75, how many words do u need for 1/1?
Markdowns =1/2 (50%) What kind of markdowns could I have used for the article to gain more marks?

@steemcurator01 needs to peer review your scoring/marking guide/scheme
Please o, some of us make these posts for the love of steemit, don't ruin the fun with this kind of ridiculous curation.
