I have been plagued by dental problems since I was probably in my twenties. What impressed me the most was that not long after I started working, I went back to school to take the examination for practicing doctors. I was awake all night with toothache on the train back to the hospital. After careful inspection, four teeth were found to have decayed teeth, all of which have been treated one after another.

At about the age of thirty, a tooth that had undergone treatment was half missing, and then a dental restoration was done. At that moment, I realized sadly that a part of my body was missing. But this was just the beginning. Since then, all 4 teeth have undergone root canal treatment one after another, with crowns installed.

However, there is still a difference between restored teeth and other healthy teeth. Sometimes it hurts, I don't dare to bite anything, and always repeatedly impacted. I have visited a few dentists and replaced the crowns several times, but the problem remains the same. Teeth problems not only affect eating, but also affect the appearance of the face due to one-sided chewing for a long time, and may also cause some other health problems due to long-term chronic infections.
After studying medicine, I began to pay attention to oral health, but I was still troubled by dental problems because these teeth had problems when they were young. If I could go back in time, I would take good care of my teeth and pay attention to oral health since I was young. Unfortunately, I didn't know anything at that time and no one taught me.

Because I suffer from dental problems, after I have a child, I don’t want her to be troubled by the same problems when she grows up. I hope she can have neat and beautiful teeth when she grows up, and smile confidently. Eat carefully. After the meal, the teeth are stuffed uncomfortably, and you don’t need to be tortured by toothache often. I pay special attention to her dental health. Since she had her first tooth, as long as she is at home, she will help her to brush her teeth. I will also take her to the dentist regularly, apply fluoride, and do pit and fissure seals.

My life and medical conditions when I was young are not the same as today, but unfortunately, as a pediatrician, I still often see a lot of children who come to see the mouth full of rotten teeth. ·Sometimes I see the child’s parents wearing name tags, but the child’s mouth is horrible.

How to maintain and improve the oral health of young children, this kind of topic is not my turn to be a pediatric surgeon, but because I have personal pain, I see so many children at work now that I walked decades ago. Along the way, I deeply feel that parents pay too little attention to their children's oral health, probably because oral problems such as tooth decay are a slow and continuous process, unlike acute problems such as colds and fever that make parents anxious and anxious.

To maintain children's oral health, the key is to raise parents' awareness of their children's oral health, so as to raise awareness of attention.

  1. Once the teeth have grown, parents should brush their children's teeth every day with fluoride toothpaste twice a day. Toothpaste is the size of a grain of rice under 3 years old, and the size of a pea at 3 years old. Before the child learns to brush his teeth proficiently (usually around 8 years old), parents must help and guide the child to brush his teeth every day.
  2. Establish a good sleep procedure: brush your teeth, listen to stories, go to bed, and stop eating after brushing your teeth before going to bed, and don’t let your child sleep with a bottle in it.
  3. In order to avoid bottle decay, one should gradually quit the bottle from the age of one.
  4. Eat less sugary foods, encourage children to drink only white water, not carbonated, sugary drinks, 100% pure fruit juice drinking should also be limited, it is recommended not to exceed 110 ~ 170ml per day.
  5. Parents should do a good job of oral hygiene demonstration, do not give their children the food that has passed their mouths, especially parents with dental problems, because the Streptococcus mutans in the adult’s mouth can be passed on to the child in this way, thereby increasing the child’s dental caries risks of.
  6. Take your child to see the dentist regularly, apply fluoride, and seal the pits and fissures to protect the teeth and deal with problems in time.
