Not a true story though.

My uncle's friend Andrew had known each other for almost 30 years, but I met this man two years ago. A couple of months ago, I found out that Andrew got really sick doctors diagnosed a serious illness affecting his lungs. It's said that he is likely to be dead within months. Andrew's son will inherit his little farm someday but until then, it looks like Andrew won't be able to survive long.

Recently, Andrew had to start removing junk from an abandoned garage behind his house since he had sold the plot and needed to leave by July. Several neighbors decided to visit and help with cleaning up. My uncle joined in as well, but, unlike others who complained about carrying boxes around, he said that the hardest thing during the entire activity was listening to Andy. Indeed, this man stopped working every once in a while to tell another story from his life. They were usually funny, crazy, or unbelievable.

"I bet you should check it out," said my uncle. "Andrew has quite a decent number of old music records in the basement."

This topic has always interested me, and I have been collecting records since I was a kid. I visited Andrew to take a look, and there were lots of different jazz and rock albums as well as many boxes containing records from the period between the late 1980s and early 1990s. Some of them were common, while others appeared to be more valuable.

Some people suggested taking all the records and putting them in the yard for a cheap sale. But I insisted that this approach would be completely useless. Instead, I told Andrew that I could go to several collector's markets with him to sell the records for money and make him even more profit. He loved that idea and wanted to earn as much as possible. There was one particular record which someone offered Andrew $300 for. I believed it had a higher value.

We sold lots of common records on the first Saturday for about GH 12,200 cedis. This amount brought Andy joy. Then, on the following weekend, I visited another market which operated in a nearby city and earned almost GH 18,000 cedis from another sale.

As I returned with money in hands, Andrew kept silence for a few moments. Then, tears started coming down his face, and he turned to his brother. "Now we are finally able to fix the roof before the rain season starts."

Everyone was moved to tears.

By the way, my mother accompanied me throughout the entire project and helped a lot with selling records. In her 76, she works even harder than other people and keeps inspiring me to follow her example. While selling the records, we also explained what kind of situation this man is in. Because of that, many buyers decided to donate some money to help this poor man.

It was truly touching seeing the smile of gratitude and hearing Andy's sobs. Everyone in the room went silent, then, the same happened to many buyers who couldn't help crying.

We still have several more albums for sale, and we will try to do everything we can to help Andrew get money. At least, let's hope that the doctors might be wrong. Sometimes life brings surprises.

At 70, Andrew had already had a rather adventurous life full of unbelievable stories. Still, I think this one was the one he would always remember.
