La idea de que el Caos es la causa u origen de todo siempre me ha fascinado. La probabilidad que el caos genere orden estadísticamente cae dentro del rango de lo imposible. Pero entonces ¿cómo existimos en un mundo ordenado?
Esa es una pregunta de corte más existencial y de fe que sobrepasa los límites de mi entendimiento y no es sobre eso que quiero hablar hoy. No, hoy quiero referirme a mi creencia en que existe una polaridad de fuerzas, (ya le daré otro nombre) cuya danza otorga impulso movimiento a este mundo.
No es una idea propia, tiene sus bases en las enseñanzas religiosas que recibí de mi familia y cultura, en la existencia del bien y el mal; luego más adelante cuando descubrí la obra de Víctor Frankl y su invitación a superar, a trascender lo caótico de nuestras vidas y convertirlo en fuerza en motivación positiva.
Luego llegó el turno de conocer el enfoque gestáltico de Fritz Perls (a quien muchos tildan de ser un verdadero generador de caos), y su referencia a la cultura oriental en la existencia del Yin y el Yang como polaridad integrada de opuestos, de contrarios.
La Otra gran influencia en mi cosmovisión sobre las polaridades la tomé del director de la escuela de terapeutas donde me formé. Recuerdo una metáfora que empleaba para referirse al poder que esos polos ejercían en nuestras vidas. Él recurría a dos dioses de la mitología griega a ” Eros” y a ”Apolos”, dos dioses diametralmente opuestos en su carácter y personalidad que podían ser colocados en los extremos de una polaridad.
Entonces explicaba que tenia que se hacía necesario un equilibrio entre ambas fuerzas: el desorden, destrucción y caos de Eros en su eterna búsqueda de satisfacción inmediata. Y en el otro extremo la rigidez y falta de espontaneidad de Apolos en su búsqueda del perfecto orden de las cosas.
Ambos extremos representaban las fuerzas que daban impulso a la vida, vivir en un solo polo te llevaba a la neurosis, luchar contra el otro polo iba en contra de ti mismo. De allí la necesidad del equilibrio, del encuentro, del contacto entre ambas fuerzas vitales que nos hacen humano.
Y como colofón, acudo a la metáfora grafica del círculo del Yin Yang, un regalo de los chinos y su “chi”. Metáfora que nos hace ver la posibilidad de concertar y hacer convivir polaridades extremas: caos y orden, vida y muerte, luz y oscuridad, destrucción y creación.
Todos tenemos esas fuerzas con nosotros y de alguna manera somos esas fuerzas (ambas), la invitación es a conocerlas, (darse cuenta) como gusta decir en la Gestalt, vivirlas, darles permisos y darles límites (los que creas necesarios) y entrar a vivir en la integración del caos y el orden en tu vida.

The idea that Chaos is the cause or origin of everything has always fascinated me. The probability that chaos generates order statistically falls within the range of the impossible. But then how do we exist in an ordered world?
That is a more existential and faith-based question that surpasses the limits of my understanding and that is not what I want to talk about today. No, today I want to refer to my belief that there is a polarity of forces, (I will give it another name) whose dance gives momentum and movement to this world.
It is not my own idea, it has its bases in the religious teachings that I received from my family and culture, in the existence of good and evil; then later when I discovered the work of Victor Frankl and his invitation to overcome, to transcend the chaotic of our lives and turn it into strength in positive motivation.
Then it was time to learn about the gestalt approach of Fritz Perls (whom many call a true generator of chaos), and his reference to Eastern culture in the existence of Yin and Yang as an integrated polarity of opposites.
Another great influence on my worldview about polarities came from the director of the therapist school where I trained. I remember a metaphor that he used to refer to the power that these poles exercised in our lives. He turned to two gods from Greek mythology to ”Eros” and ”Apollos”, two gods diametrically opposed in their character and personality who could be placed at the extremes of a polarity.
Then he explained that he had to strike a balance between both forces: the disorder, destruction and chaos of Eros in his eternal search for immediate satisfaction. And at the other extreme the rigidity and lack of spontaneity of Apollos in his search for the perfect order of things.
Both extremes represented the forces that gave impetus to life, living in one pole led you to neurosis, fighting against the other pole went against yourself. Hence the need for balance, for encounter, for contact between both vital forces that make us human.
And as a culmination, I turn to the graphic metaphor of the Yin Yang circle, a gift from the Chinese and their “chi”. Metaphor that makes us see the possibility of agreeing and making extreme polarities coexist: chaos and order, life and death, light and darkness, destruction and creation.
We all have those forces with us and in some way we are those forces (both), the invitation is to know them, (awereness) as Gestalt likes to say, live them, give them permissions and give them limits (whatever you think necessary) and enter into live in the integration of chaos and order in your life.
