Looters didn't come for this one
There was a real life story I heard had happened somewhere. A truck loaded with books of different categories had an accident and almost all the books came out falling to the ground.
The twist is that normally, looters come around to steal what they can before the police arrives at the scene. This time, no looters came. People around saw it and didn't even bother to help except two. Stealing is not a good thing, especially when the person you're stealing from is around in a situation of loss. The car would need repairs, if some books are messed up, selling them won't be easy but people run to these cars to pick stuff because it's what they want or need and it's just there, free for the taking.
It's technically stealing and you'll be charged with the same charges as a thief would but that story goes to show our value for books. The only excuse that calms me down from the obvious weirdness of this story is that perhaps they have the Internet so they don't need the books. Not all books can be found online, so if they actually valued the unique knowledge, it would have been a different story. Looters go for what they know they will use or sell. Even though they're not interested in reading books, at least they can sell it. Nope, the looters know people just don't care about buying books and the Internet is not an exciting because most of the search results is entertainment and making money.
YouTube is flooded with knowledge of course but there's more entertainment there than there is educational content. A lot use it for learning how to do stuff and understanding things but more people use it purely for entertainment.
If the truck had iPhones fall, I doubt the driver would see one after he manages to get out of the fallen vehicle. The books were intact and safe, I laughed when I read it but then I stopped laughing realizing the moral behind that real life story. What do you think about it?
