The words/ Las palabras

The words

Words drift aimlessly;
the breeze buffets them,
wraps around them,
spins them into a whirlwind.
The blind man feels them,
the mute traces them in the air,
old women transform them into gazes,
lovers into kisses,
the dying into pain.
They multiply in the light,
hide in the mist;
the poet seeks them fervently,
the drunkard drinks them down,
the priest prays them.
Like spilled pendulums,
words move from place to place;
they never stop,
they pulse,
they become eternal
in a clot of fresh ink
or in an old, crossed-out mark
in a forgotten notebook.

palpitan,
se hacen eternas
en un coágulo de tinta fresca
o en un tachón añejo
de un cuaderno olvidado.

I do not know how many poems have been written about the word. But there are never enough. I hope you enjoy this text.

I completely agree with you. Thanks a million for stopping by and leaving such a lovely comment.

Upvoted! Thank you for supporting witness @jswit.

When I write something, I also like to say: I do things with words ;-)) Because it’s more than just talking or expressing oneself. You can play with them, conjure up images and even hurt people. Words are powerful. As a weapon as well as a means of communication...

True. That is why the word has inspired many poets to write about it. It is like a spring of water that flows continuously, even during a drought.
