Celine put her books away before getting up. She made her way to the bathroom and gently rinsed her face. She paused as she sighted the scar which ran from the nose bridge, over her right upper eyelid, then cutting through her eyebrow. Another deep bruise by the corner of her mouth caught her attention, it was recent and it would surely take time to disappear.

She sighed. It was becoming too much. The abuse was becoming too much and unbearable, on daily basis. Her father, abusing her continuously had left her doubting if she was really his daughter. He’d done all sorts, except assaulting her sexually. She shook her head at how helpless she was. She knew no relative of her mother or father, she could run to. Her father is the only family member she has and she couldn’t bear to watch him go to jail.
She jolted out of her thought when she heard sounds coming from the other side of the door. Carefully, she made her way towards it and paused when she heard the familiar voice of her father and other voices too.

"She’s in there, I can assure you." Robert, her father, said. "I left her here before coming over."

"She better be in there, or you could explain yourself to boss".

Celine heard that and she panicked as a horrible thought flashed through her mind. Robert had been telling her recently, to forget about school and he’d be marrying her off to some don or something, because he couldn’t pay up his debt.
"Go in and grab her quickly. Take her to boss immediately." Robert had said once more.
From his tone, anyone can tell he could care less about what they’d do to her. Celine trembled lightly, wild thoughts running through her mind. They were talking about her. What if they’re taking her to some psycho?, what if they’re going to sell her off into prostitution?. She either take a decision now or she’d be ruined for life. She glanced around with a messed up mind. She dashed quietly towards her bag, she grabbed it before making her way for the back door.

Realizing she had gotten out of the house successfully, Celine heaved a sigh of relief. Suddenly she heard a shout.
"There!!" One of the men alerted, upon seeing the feminine figure emerge from the back.

"There she is! She’s about to get away!"

Celine wasted no time taking to her heels. They’d seen her and relenting a bit could implicate her. She ran down the street in her fastest pace.
"Stop right there, you stupid child!" Robert shouted, following the men chasing after her daughter.

"Stop!" One of the men bellowed after her too.

" Get her!!" They shouted on the street, unrestrained. No one was frowning at their act either.

'Ah. Who stops to get their life ruined?' she thought as she burst out into the busy street. Still, the dogs chasing her didn’t slow down, talkless of stopping. She soon reached the front of a big mall, she hurriedly hid behind a black Lexus parked by the lot.
This didn’t stop the people chasing her from carrying out their deed. They searched for her, carefully glancing around for the familiar figure. Just then an old truck Pulled over with a roughish looking man behind the steering.

"Boss!" The men suddenly said at the sight of the man.

'What are you still doing?, Where is she?"

We_ we lost her boss." One of them stuttered out.

" Lost her?, How could you?!. What are you?, Stupid?. Find her!!!" The roughish man spewed out in annoyance.

" Yes boss" they replied before proceeding to resume their search.

Celine who could clearly hear and see them from where she hid, prayed silently that they don’t find her. She clutched tightly on her bag.
"Who are you?" A gentle but stern voice said behind Celine, causing to jump.
She turned around towards the source of the voice, and her eyes fell on a woman. She was beautiful. Dressed in a white female suit and her hair in a bob, she looked exquisite. Anyone would be able to deduce it, that she was a big business woman. She had a female bodyguard behind her who held her Prada bag.
Frowning at the young lady who’s yet to talk, the woman asked again "Young lady, I said who are you?"

"I_I’m..... I"

" Are you a thief?"

" No. No" frantically. " I’m not a.."

" Mel, search her" the lady said to her bodyguard." I’ll call the cops while you’re at it.” She added.

Mel nodded before snatching the bag from Celine and carelessly searching through it. Books, books, pen, hair brush and a small mobile phone was all she could find. She thrusted it back into Celine’s arm, then turned to the woman " All clear, Mrs Hales".
Mrs Hales nodded. Just then she heard the hoarse voice again "Be thorough, you must find her!". Her gaze fell on the haggard young lady again.

"Please...... please, don’t let him..." Celine’s voice rang out lowly in desperation, earning a frown from Mrs Hales.

"Don’t let him take me away...... please" she pleaded once more, cowering.
Mrs Hales expressionlessly glanced at the men on search, scattered around. Her indifferent gaze fell on Celine again before saying "you did something to them, didn’t you?. What have you done?"

" Nothing... nothing. I..."
She was cut short when the woman suddenly opened the door to the backseat. "Get in"
She was stunned and surprised at the woman’s words. She needed help, but she wasn’t expecting it to come so easily...

"Get in." This time, it was Mel who repeated it impatiently. Celine wasted no time as she almost flew into the vehicle. Mrs Hales got in too, followed by Mel. "Drive" Mrs Hales said to the driver who ignited the car to life and drove off.
Robert and the other men continued their search. Why they couldn’t find her was confusing.

Everything and everyone they met here were in place, no one was getting away without their knowledge except a black Lexus.
'She couldn’t be in there... ' Robert thought with a deep frown.

Sometimes running away is the only right thing to do: closure, a fresh start, perspective. If that starts in a Lexus, it's certainly not the worst ;-))

😂 oh yes.

Some people have bad luck for awhile, could be frying pan into the fire.

You are right
But my hope for Celine is not to move from frying pan to fire🤧
