Yes, it is morally right... However, there are burdens so heavy that not everyone can bear them, and if they do, it is difficult to sustain them... If you were held captive in a prison and knew the method to escape, would you do something about it or remain captive? It is an easy question to answer if there are no special conditions, but if it implies eternal condemnation, would you remain there? The answer may no longer be the same.

That's an interesting thought experiment... I think it depends on whether I feel guilty and regret my actions. Then I would stay (even without bars and guards). If I feel innocent or misunderstood, I would be tempted...
