Crypto Legends Review

Crypto Legends is a brand new card game on EOS playable on mobile devices, in order to play it you will need Token Pocket EOS wallet, that is the only wallet the game supports atm. The game is free to play but it is also pay to win, the more EOS you spend ingame your chances of winning will increase big time. You can chose to spend moderate amount of EOS and that will get you pretty far with certain strong decks, but you can also make some pretty strong decks with less than one EOS invested, don't expect to get to highest ranks with that amount invested though. In terms of card numbers there are 1060 cards available, that is like 5-6 Hearthstone expansions worth of cards, just to give you the scope of this game.

The strongest pay to win aspect of the game are the legendary cards which can be bought on ingame exchange for minimal price of 10 EOS, you can also purchase packs of legendaries that have increased chance of getting one. Second pay to win aspect is also pretty powerful, there are basic, silver and golden cards. Every hero has a special ability that needs to recharge 4 charges in order to use it again, normal cards give 1 charge, silver cards have 10% chance to give you 2 charges, gold cards have 10% chance to give you 3 charges. Combine gold cards with legendary cards and you have a strong pay to win game.

Regardless of that the gameplay is pretty good with some new mechanics I've never seen in card games before. There are 8 hero classes each with their own special ability and cards, those classes are Paladin, Mage, Warlock, Priest, Hunter, Death Knight, Rogue and Warrior. Overall it seems that Paladin, Death Knight and Warrior are the strongest ones in terms of their special abilities, Paladin can give divine shield to any unit, Death Knight summons 2 skeletons, Warrior attacks the face and heals (dream face hunter).

There are two types of attacks in this game, melee and ranged. Ranged units have an advantage when attacking melee units which then can't retaliate, in order to balance this ranged units have lower attack, you can also buff every unit with spells and with abilities from other units. There is a back line and front line, in order to attack the back line you need to clear the front line with one exception of ranged units that can attack everyone.

There are two separate pools of mana, one is used for units and the second one is used for spells. This can create many turns of complete mayhem, for example you can have a complete board control with winning in sight, then your opponent casts a spell which wipes your whole board, and then he summons his whole host of new units because of two separate mana pools. Matches can become very hectic in that regard, you never know what will happen and you better learn to save cards for those nightmare scenarios.

Ingame currency called crystal can be earned by completing quests and achievements and are used for many different activities, you can purchase bronze packs for 200 crystals which contain 5 normal or rare cards. You can use the crystals to open reward chests faster, reward chests are given for every ranked win and contain one card of normal or rare cards, silver and gold rarities can also drop inside reward chests. The last but not the least utility of crystals is card listings on ingame exchange.

I'm running this game on my android phone and it is quite smooth to play, occasionally there are connection issues which can ruin the experience, but with time this can be resolved. Considering this game is only one month old with all the different mechanics never seen before I think it can get some traction among crypto people. With all the issues EOS is having atm I don't think many outsiders will jump into this. My overall impression about this game is positive, when you remove the pay to win aspect, which by the way every card game has, you can safely say that Crypto Legends offer something fresh and new and I would surely recommend it. Score: 76/100!

Looks a little more p2w than I like. Does sound fun and quite different at least.

I also forgot to mention the synthesis of cards, for example if you have 4 duplicate cards, you can combine them into one of the higher rarity, and that action will cost you 0.06 EOS, so there is no cheap burning of cards like in Splinterlands. Another pay to win mechanic. Perhaps if they change that to crystals it would be worth it.

That is such a strange added burn cost. Least that is not a lot in EOS.

Can you sell cards you collect and items from the game?

Yes, every card can be sold for EOS. Normal ones go for 0.01 EOS, rare ones go for 0.1 EOS, epic 1 EOS, legendary 10 EOS. Silver and gold cards can go even higher, depending on the rarity. The problem is there is not enough liquidity, a lot of cards are not interesting to buy. I did buy some but I haven't sold any yet.

With a score of 76 I reckon you have a detailed and complicated review scoring mechanism. A thorough review!

Tnx. The way I do it I look at the pros and cons, most of the cons are coming from EOS issues, hard wallets, congested network, ingame card economy is expensive, but from gameplay perspective this game is fun and that gives it a better score. When EOS gets better user experience you can place this game in above 80 area.

Looks good!

Yeah, they actually have every card modeled in 3d and every spell is animated.

I made an EOS account, but I can't access any dApp, I can't buy RAM and CPU .. for now I have a bad opinion of EOS

It is not good atm. My CPU is 98%, I can't do anything also. Avoid it until things cool down and network starts working as intended.

I hope thinks could be better next week. I’d like try Everipedia, but at the moment is impossible. I think that this situation isn’t good for EOS future. What do you think?
