Children don't have to be beaten when they misbehave but there needs to be consequences. I helped raise a child. I see no reason to swat the child on the butt with the hand more than 3 times. Using a stick and creating physical wounds doesn't make the discipline better or improve the child's behavior. It only makes them afraid of the person who abused them.
