The bible about laziness

At different stages of our life, depending on various factors, people may go through periods in which we lack the desire to be productive.

In these stages we come to consider, or be considered, lazy.

The factors that I mention are things like the type of education we have had or the condition of the families in which we grew up, also our personality, the degree of maturity that we have reached, or emotional situations. All of these things have an impact on what we understand by laziness.

When faced with questions like, what does the bible say about laziness? Or is laziness a sin?

However, in summary, the biblical definition of laziness is a lack of desire and willingness to finish what has been started or to carry out the work that has been entrusted to us.

Biblical perspective on laziness.

To talk about laziness from a biblical perspective, let's first look at what the bible says.

Read this introductory passage with me:

Come on, sloth, look at the ant!
Look at what he does, and be wise!
It has no one to command it, or one to watch over it or govern it; however, in the summer he stores provisions and during the harvest he gathers food.
Lazy, how much longer will you stay in bed?
When you wake up from your sleep?
A short sleep, a short nap, a little rest, folded your arms… and poverty will assail you like a bandit, and scarcity like an armed man!
Proverbs 6: 6 – 11

Taking this biblical text as a reference, let's approach the subject of laziness from the different perspectives that the Bible gives us that laziness is sin.

Clearly the bible does not praise laziness at all. There are many passages in which the Bible condemns a lazy attitude and does not promote it at all. As human beings, one of the first commands that God gave us after leaving the Garden of Eden was to work, Genesis 2:15.

That of being productive.

Since God gave us that command, an unjustified lazy attitude can be considered sin, since we would be disobeying the divine command.

The reason God wants us to be productive is because He knows that He is a blessing to our life.

He knows that working or being active is positive for our spiritual, physical, social and psychological health.

As a loving father, he urges us to flee from laziness and to walk on the right path.

Lack of proactivity is also laziness

In our work, when we only make the minimum effort possible, or when we only do the things necessary so that we are not scold or fired, we are being lazy.

We are committing a sin.

In our daily life, when we do not have goals or objectives that motivate us to autonomous action, we are also being lazy.
In today's study text, we see how Solomon invites the lazy person to consider the ants, who work without the need for anyone to watch or rule over them.

By contrast, the lazy person only does what they are forced to do through the use of authority or vigilance.
It is not proactive, it does not worry about assuming responsibilities or initiatives autonomously.

Even if you see danger or problem approaching your life, you do not act to change the situation or solve it.

La biblia acerca de la pereza

En diferentes etapas De nuestra vida, dependiendo de diversos factores, es posible que las personas pasemos por periodos en los que carezcamos de deseos de ser productivos.

En estas etapas nos llegamos a considerar, o ser considerados, perezosos.

Los factores que menciono son cosas como el tipo de educación que hayamos tenido o la condición de las familias en las que crecimos, también nuestra personalidad, el grado de madurez que hayamos alcanzado, o situaciones emocionales. Todas estas cosas tienen impacto en lo que entendemos por pereza.

Ante preguntas como, ¿qué dice la biblia acerca de la pereza?, o ¿la pereza es pecado?

Sin embargo, en resumen, la definición bíblica de pereza es falta de ganas y voluntad para terminar lo que se ha iniciado o cumplir con la labor que se nos ha encomendado.

Perspectiva bíblica sobre la pereza.

Para hablar sobre la pereza desde una perspectiva bíblica, lo primero es que veamos lo que la biblia dice.

Lee conmigo este pasaje bíblico introductorio:

¡Anda, perezoso, fíjate en la hormiga!
¡Fíjate en lo que hace, y adquiere sabiduría!
No tiene quien la mande, ni quien la vigile ni gobierne; con todo, en el verano almacena provisiones y durante la cosecha recoge alimentos.
Perezoso, ¿cuánto tiempo más seguirás acostado?
¿Cuándo despertarás de tu sueño?
Un corto sueño, una breve siesta, un pequeño descanso, cruzado de brazos… ¡y te asaltará la pobreza como un bandido, y la escasez como un hombre armado!
Proverbios 6: 6 – 11

Teniendo este texto bíblico como referencia, abordemos el tema de la pereza desde las diferentes perspectivas que la Biblia nos da que la pereza es pecado.

Claramente la biblia no alaba la pereza en lo absoluto. Son muy numerosos los pasajes en los que la biblia condena una actitud perezosa y para nada la promueve. Cómo seres humanos, uno de los primeros mandatos que Dios nos dio después de salir del huerto del edén fue el de trabajar, Génesis 2:15.

El de ser productivos.

Dado que Dios nos dio ese mandamiento, una actitud perezosa injustificada puede considerarse pecado, pues estaríamos desobedeciendo el mandato divino.

La razón por la que Dios quiere que seamos productivos es porque Él sabe que es una bendición para nuestra vida.
Él sabe que trabajar o estar en actividad es positivo para nuestra salud espiritual, física, social y psicológica.

Como amoroso padre nos insta a huir de la pereza y a andar en el camino correcto.

La falta de proactividad también es pereza

En nuestro trabajo, cuando solo hacemos el mínimo esfuerzo posible, o cuando solo hacemos las cosas necesarias para que no nos regañen o despidan, estamos siendo perezosos.

Estamos cometiendo un pecado en nuestra vida diaria, cuando no tenemos metas u objetivos que nos motiven a la acción autónoma, también estamos siendo perezosos.

En el texto de estudio del día de hoy, vemos como Salomón invita al perezoso a considerar a las hormigas, quienes trabajan sin necesidad de que alguien las vigile o las gobiernes.

Por contraste, el perezoso solo hace lo que lo obligan a hacer mediante el uso de la autoridad o la vigilancia.
No es proactivo, no se preocupa por asumir responsabilidades o iniciativas de forma autónoma.

Incluso, aunque vea el peligro o el problema aproximándose a su vida, no actúa para cambiar la situación o resolverla.
En conclusión, la biblia nos advierte de la pereza, por eso quise compartirles este post para bendecirlos, espero que les haya gustado y me apoyen.
