It’s certainly a favorite tradition for young people, sitting in a group taking turns telling spooky stories. I remember those school days; we actually wanted to listen to those stories and scare ourselves.

Japan has an interesting tradition called Kaidankai, where they light 100 candles for 100 stories. One is blown out each time a story finishes, but they always leave the 100th one lit just in case they invite an unwanted entity.
