" AI will be smarter than all of humanity"

Speaking of the future, in 2025 we could have an Artificial Intelligence that is smarter than any human being by that date, at least that is what Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX, owner of neuralink, among other technology companies, predicts. He also believes that Artificial Intelligence will be smarter than all of humanity combined by 2029.

Interacting with comments on an episode of Joe Rogan's podcast Musk's words once again made headlines in the podcast episode is an interview with futurist Ray Crosswell where he and Joe Rogan discussed the history and future of AI, and how will be compared to human intelligence, Ray Crosswell adds that human-level AI will become a reality by 2029.

“We have not left there, but we will and in 2029 the AI will be on par with anyone, I am considered a conservative, people think this will happen next year or the year after,” said Crosswell, also adding “that I said it in 1999 , I said we would reach this level of technology by 2029.”

Elon Musk agreed with the sentiment, but went much further with his predictions about the future capabilities of AI, AI will probably already be smarter than any human being in the next year, by 2029 AI will probably be smarter than anything. the human together wrote elon musk responding to Ray crosswell on his social networks.

This type of statement is already natural for Elon Musk who has made his opinions on AI very clear in recent years, for example, in November 2023 he shared his vision of a future in which AI will already do everything, during a discussion With British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at the AI Security Summit he said “AI is the most disruptive force in history, we will have for the first time something that is smarter than the smartest human being, it will reach a point where that no job will be necessary, you can have a job if you want to have it for personal satisfaction, but AI will be able to do absolutely everything, the pace of AI is by far faster than any technology I have seen in history, and it seems to be growing in capacity at least five times maybe 10 times a year and the government is not used to moving at that speed, Musk concluded.

Crosswell and Musk are talking about Artificial General Intelligence, AGI this would be very different from the AIs you might be familiar with, like large language models or Jet boots, although definitions vary on what would be considered true AGI, the Most experts agree that such a thing would be indistinguishable from a human being in conversation and ability, but with much greater efficiency.

Nor would you need to stop to eat, sleep or relax after a hard day of work, plus Musk and many also agree that agi would soon be able to surpass even the most intelligent human being, with enough time it could also eclipse the cognitive capacity of its mother species, that is, to god humans, although this puts the fear of God in some, others are more optimistic that the emergence of an agi could be the best thing since the discovery of fire, therefore, already Whether Musk's or more conservative estimates of AGI's timeline are correct, most experts seem to agree that we are on the brink of AGI's rise.

I saw Musk's comments on Twitter. In some senses, we can already say that AI is smarter than any human. Even as far back IBM's debut of Watson on Jeopardy, or when Deep Blue beat Gary Kasparov at chess, AI has been able to do some things better than humans. Certainly, it now has access to more facts than any human will ever be able to memorize.

I think we're still a good long way from when AI can operate as a standalone replacement for a human mind, though. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see that happening in 2025 or 2029, or even 2050 - or maybe not even ever. So, I guess it depends what Musk means by "smarter than".

I read Kurzweil's The Singularity is Near a couple of decades ago, so I've forgotten much of it. It might be interesting to go back and read that again now.

I share your point of view, it should not be compared, since they are different things, the way huge databases and now at enormous speeds.

I think that all these projections are very far into the future, what really worries me is the use of that technology for particular and evil interests, well like all technology.

I hope we evolve for the better,

I agree with both of you that we should not be comparing human and artificial intelligence, and as was discussed, I think we should be analyzing and discussing what we can achieve when we use them together. As you stated in your comment in my recent post Jorge, I also worry about who funds AI and for what purpose. Alignment should be a topic more popular and more dismistified for the average person that starts to learn about AI, but unfortunately having access to reliable information online nowadays is getting more difficult everyday and, ironically, part of the blame is on the AIs flooding the web with SEO focused text.

Let's hope that both artificial and hukan intelligence evolve for the better :)
