Currently the magnetic North Pole moves about 48 km a year, it has already moved beyond the geological North Pole, from the Earth's axis of rotation, and right now it is in a place where it has not been for miles. of years and is heading towards Russia and there is nothing to indicate that it will slow down or change direction at this speed, it could reach Siberian soil in about 30 years.
We do not know why this happens, unlike the geographic North Pole which is in a more or less fixed position, the geographic North Pole is the axis of rotation of the Earth, it moves, but much less, in the last 1003 years it has moved. about 10 meters, but the magnetic North Pole wanders freely and moves on the order of kilometers, the thing is that it has not moved at this speed for a long time.
It has been known since it was first measured in 1831 and then mapped by the positions in which it moved slowly, more or less between the Canadian Arctic towards Siberia, it was not much, but, even if it was not much, it was a nuisance for anyone who wanted to undertake a trip, especially for ships from centuries ago that were guided thanks to compasses that pointed towards the magnetic North Pole, not the geographical one, but it is also an inconvenience today because our modern technology uses that reference, for example for maps of Google or smartphones.
