Scientific review, What they don't tell you about the ketogenic diet

There are very few people who tell you the disadvantages of these modern diets, despite there being sufficient scientific evidence about it, is that consuming too many high-fat foods also carries risks both in the short and long term when not done correctly. a balanced way.

And we are talking here about quantities and qualities of foods, since there are foods that tend to be high in calories, fat, salt, refined carbohydrates, but low in fiber, vitamins and minerals. And although some of these foods are "allowed" that we can give ourselves from time to time, the problem is when we consume them regularly in our daily lives, or at least in our regular diet more than once a week, which can affect negatively to both our body and our health and of course also to our sporting performance.

A diet rich in fats can cause bloating, stomach pain, and even diarrhea, and this is mainly because, among the macronutrients, which are proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, fats are the slowest to digest. And because of this, high-fat foods delay stomach emptying and spend more time there, which can cause bloating, nausea, and stomach pain.

Additionally, in people who suffer from certain digestive conditions this can also worsen with symptoms such as cramps and diarrhea.

Another disadvantage of diets rich in fat is that it can damage our intestinal microbiota. It is also scientifically proven that fatty foods damage the healthy bacteria that live in our intestines and that have very important functions. This set of microorganisms is also known as the "intestinal microbiota."

This intestinal microbiota has a close relationship with our immune system, and that is why it is very important that it works correctly. The same thing happens, for example, with the regulation of our body weight, and this is why an imbalance in our intestinal bacteria can cause us to gain weight. body, that we gain weight, and that we do not understand very well why, and an unbalanced or poorly balanced diet, too high in fat, can also damage your intestinal microbiota and increase the amount of unhealthy intestinal bacteria.

And these changes can lead to problems such as obesity and other chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes and even neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's.
