A new generation of military drones is beginning to completely change the concept of modern combat, mainly in a scenario where taking down communications has become one of the most efficient weapons of today's war. The Royal Netherlands Navy began operations of an unmanned aerial system called VBET, an aircraft developed to continue operating even in environments where GPS, radio communication and external signals are blocked. In other words, it was created to operate precisely when everything around it stops working.


The V-BAT was developed by Shield AI and brings together features that make this type of system extremely valuable in modern missions, it can take off and land vertically like a helicopter without the need for runways or complex structures and then switch to horizontal flight like a conventional aircraft, gaining speed, range and efficiency.


This means that it can be launched from ships, roofs, small clareiras or any small space, something essential in real operations where mobility is decisive, but the most important point is in the environment for which it was designed, today one of the main military strategies consists of reaching the enemy by blocking GPS, interfering with signals and breaking communications, when that happens, many modern systems simply stop working, this drone was created exactly to go through that type of scenario.


During tests in northern Europe, operating in regions close to the Arctic, the system demonstrated the ability to fly in strong winds, negative temperatures and areas with geophysical anomalies that usually affect electronic navigation. Even in these conditions, it managed to transmit images in real time and expand the situational awareness of the vessel that operated it.


This allows identifying objects at sea, exploring safer routes, locating threats and drastically expanding the visual range of naval forces and there is another strategic detail, this type of drone does not need to act alone, it can operate in coordinated groups, allowing a single operator to control multiple units at the same time, creating intelligent swarms capable of monitoring large areas or saturating enemy defenses, but war is only one part of this revolution.
