A new AI can read electroencephalograms with human accuracy

Danish scientists found that the automated interpretation of electroencephalograms (EEG) has reached the expert level.
The AI model was trained on 30,493 EEG recordings that averaged 33 minutes.
Among them were records with focal and generalized epileptiform and non-epileptiform anomalies and records without anomalies.
Later, about ten thousand more records were added to the training cohort.
The model more accurately found anomalies on the EEG if the recording lasted more than 20 minutes.
Statistical analysis showed almost complete agreement between the conclusions of experts and the neural network.
In addition, it found anomalies more accurately and more specifically than the three previously released models.
