Why did a deer chew a snake? [VIDEO]

A Texas resident found and filmed a white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) eating a snake.

In the video, posted on Instagram, a female of this species stands on the side of the road and chews on an unidentified snake.

Probably, the deer picked up and began to eat a reptile that died under the wheels of a car.

Although deer primarily feed on plants, they regularly supplement their diet with food of animal origin.

For example, they gnaw on discarded horns and old bones, destroy bird nests located on the ground, and sometimes even catch rodents.

For example in Costa Rica, zoologists have observed white-tailed deer nibbling on the bones of sea turtles killed by jaguars.

It is assumed that animal food allows deer to make up for the lack of protein, phosphorus and calcium, which are necessary for the growth of antlers and milk production.

Probably the female filmed had the same goals.

According to an alternative version, the downed snake reminded her of the placenta that deer eat after giving birth to get extra energy and not attract predators.

In this case, the deer began to eat the reptile by mistake.

I saw that on Twitter. I thought it might be a "deep fake" at first. Pretty amazing!

I thought so too, but then I saw the possible explanation.
