The Camellia sinensis is a species of evergreen shrub or small tree in the flowering plant in the family of Theaceae. It’s originally native to Southeast Asia (southern China, north India, Myanmar & Cambodia) but are also cultivated today in Sri Lanka and Japan. Its leaves & leaf buds are used to produce black & green Tea. Common names include tea plant, tea shrub & tea tree, unrelated to Melaleuca alternifolia, the source of tea tree oil, or the genus Leptospermum commonly called tea tree.
