It's a beautifulspecies of large cactus belonging to the family of Cactaceae that is endemic to the subtropical & tropical coastal areas of the Americas, especially around the Caribbean. Common names include erect prickly pear and nopal estricto (Spanish). Opuntia stricta is used as a barrier fence and in some parts of the world as livestock fodder which is also used in medicine, food, and cosmetics in the form of tea, jam, juice, and oil from seeds, it's an important source of pigmented bioactive substances.
