Brevity is the Soul of Wit

This famous phrase was coined by none other than William Shakespeare himself in his iconic play Hamlet. It's delivered by the character Polonius, who ironically utters these words while giving one of his trademark long-winded speeches. However, through this humor, Shakespeare aims to convey that the essence of intelligence and wit lies in expressing oneself in a simple and concise manner.

It highlights the idea that conveying your message effectively often requires cutting out the fluff and getting straight to the point. Shakespeare reminds us that rambling on endlessly, as Polonius is wont to do, undermines true intelligence. The witty among us understand that less can indeed be more when it comes to articulating our thoughts and ideas with impact.

Additionally, I believe that being concise makes you appear more authoritative and confident. When you confidently present your point without any fluff, people automatically assume that you have a good understanding of the subject matter. This also boosts your credibility because you are precise and to-the-point. Just look at the example below.

Now, let's talk about why I chose this topic. For those of you who've been interacting with me in the comments recently, you probably get the gist. There’s been a bit of an uproar in the last two weeks about the AI-generated comments —claims of unfairness like, "My comments were more, why was he declared the winner?" or "That guy’s just using AI to generate comments," and "He’s spamming by repeating words from the user’s post in his comments." Well, I’ve got a few things to say about this.

Firstly, I get that this platform is open to everyone, and everyone has the right to share their opinions. I respect that, even though I wasn't planning to write about this again. Ever since I published post in the Steem Watcher community, loads of people have been hitting me up on Discord and WhatsApp. They're sending screenshots saying, "Look, this guy is using AI too, why didn’t you mention him?" So, let me make it clear—I’m not a detective, and it was never my intention to start a blame game.

You might be surprised, but some people have even sent me screenshots of my own comments saying, "Look, AI is detected here." What they don’t realize is that AI detectors don’t really work properly on comments with less than 300 words, among other complexities. Honestly, I don’t want to dive into that mess. Just yesterday, I was discussing with a user that I’ve had my share of bad experiences with these detectors last year, so now I rely more on my human intuition.

So, please, don't DM me or start pointing fingers at each other. Think about the impact on newcomers who join this platform aiming to earn only. What will they think if they see “veterans” misusing the system or accusing each other? What kind of effect will that have on the overall ecosystem of this platform?

Since the crackdown on AI-generated comments began, some people who aren’t using AI but whose comments aren't of great quality are also getting caught in the crossfire. I was just discussing this in a reply to my friend’s comment—there should be a distinction between “not good comments” and “AI-generated comments.” He didn’t take offense; instead, he appreciated the constructive criticism. You see that’s the beauty of this platform. We learn from each other.

I admit that many of my own comments aren’t up to the standard either, but my friend Patjewell gave a beautiful response which you can see in the screenshotsbelow.

One more thing—I’d like to add that we don’t engage in the same style and tone with everyone. It really depends on the type of post and the author you’re engaging with.

Some have complained that I just say thank you to people commenting on my posts. To clarify, I never comment just to be seen in the engagement rankings, and if a comment requires a response or clarification, I make sure to reply.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, I’d advise AI-comment spammers to learn to express yourself naturally and avoid lengthy, pointless comments. The problem starts when you feel you have to reply to every post. It’s not feasible to comment naturally on more than 100 posts, so then people turn to AI, which I think isn't right. Try engaging with authors you personally know or with whom you have a good relationship. You’ll naturally find better ways to engage. Step out of the AI comment race, keep the concept of AI use and abuse in mind, and please, once again, don’t DM me. Forget what others are doing and just focus on improving your content.

I'll keep that in mind next time.

Hehe, you could have mentioned me here. Lol

Take it easy. I can feel that you are stressed out with this all fiasco. This blame game would never end. You have opened a can of worms. 🐛🐛🐛🐛

You can't make everyone understand your views and there is no point in explaining and re-explaining everything. We hear you loud and clear :)
