The Carmen Thyssen Museum in Malaga

Hello friends. We were delighted to visit this museum using the free entry starting from 17:00 on Sundays. Located very close to Constitution Square, this museum is housed in a beautiful historic three-story mansion. Paintings are exhibited on all three floors starting from the 13th century. Of course, the collection includes many landscapes, city scenes, maritime themes and portraits, alongside the most famous works of Julio Ramon Casas. The museum features an elevator, a café and a souvenir shop.

The museum is wonderful, engaging and never boring. It's fascinating not only to appreciate the art but also to see places we've visited in the past, looking a hundred years or more younger. Despite restoration efforts, there are scenes of life and interiors that we may not see anymore. We particularly enjoyed the paintings depicting sea views.

The collection of this museum is housed in the Villa-Lon Palace in Malaga, dating back to the mid-16th century and includes examples of 19th-century Spanish painting, with a special focus on artists from Andalusia.

The museum hosts over 200 artworks. The exhibition starts with a series of paintings by old masters, highlighting Surbarán's Saint Marina prominently.

Following this section is an exhibition of romantic landscapes and costume paintings. Works by artists such as Manuel Barrón and Henaro Pérez Villamil are showcased. Mariano Fortuny's works open the section on valuable paintings and naturalistic landscapes. Lastly there is a section dedicated to Spanish art at the end of the century. And the museum regularly hosts temporary exhibitions.
