Face to face with the world’s largest bird.

Hello Steemians,

Today I share one of the most unique and joyful experiences I’ve ever had a visit to an ostrich farm in Tunisia.
This day was full of discovery, laughter, and amazing photo moments with these magnificent birds.

Arrival at the Farm

Entering the farm wide land, sunshine, and curious ostriches waiting behind the fence.

From the first moment, I could feel the peaceful rhythm of the place.
The farm was surrounded by open fields and fresh air. The ostriches were calm, walking in small groups, watching us with big bright eyes.
Their size and confidence were impressive, they truly are kings of the bird world.

Hugging an Ostrich

The highlight of my visit, me hugging an ostrich, a mix of curiosity and trust.

This was the most unforgettable part of the day.
Getting close to such a large, powerful bird and feeling its steady breathing was incredible.
The ostrich was calm, gentle, and surprisingly friendly, a perfect symbol of how humans and animals can connect through respect.

Holding Four Giant Eggs Beside an Ostrich

Beside an ostrich, holding four massive eggs, each one heavier than it looks!

Ostrich eggs are truly extraordinary. Each one weighs about 1.5 kilograms, equal to nearly 25 chicken eggs.
Holding four at once felt like lifting small bowling balls smooth, solid, and perfectly shaped.
The ostrich beside me seemed proud, almost posing for the camera.

One Egg and Two Watchers

My hand holding a single egg, two ostriches watching curiously.

This image tells a story on its own.
The two ostriches in the background watched as I carefully held one of their eggs a moment that showed the protective and intelligent nature of these animals.
It’s amazing how they communicate through body language and eye contact.

Collection of Many Ostrich Eggs

A beautiful collection of ostrich eggs nature’s artwork displayed in perfect harmony.

At the farm’s small exhibition area, I found this elegant lineup of eggs.
Different shades of white and cream, each slightly unique, all arranged like sculptures.
It reminded me of patience, care, and the balance that nature creates on its own.

What I Learned About Ostriches

During my visit, the guide shared fascinating information about these birds:

  • Ostriches are the largest living birds in the world.
  • They can run up to 70 km/h faster than a city car!
  • One egg can feed a family for breakfast for several days.
  • Their eyes are larger than their brains but they are clever and curious animals.
  • Ostriches mate for life and care deeply for their eggs and chicks.

Learning these facts made me appreciate them even more. They are symbols of strength, balance, and adaptation.

Reflection & Final Thoughts

After walking around the farm, I sat quietly and watched them from a distance.
The sound of the wind, the sight of these tall birds moving gracefully it all felt peaceful.
This visit reminded me that nature doesn’t need to fly to be free.

Hugging an ostrich and holding those massive eggs made me feel connected to something simple and pure life itself.

You can see those ostriches are familiar with being around humans. I've always wanted to see one of those family-sized eggs in person. One alone makes several servings of scrambled eggs. 😂

Haha yes exactly, they’re super used to people.
And those giant eggs really are like a full family breakfast in one shell.
