Nanjing City Wall
The Nanjing City Wall spans over six centuries, standing as a testament to "six hundred years of wind and rain, a city unmatched in the world." It represents the most persistent form of "city encirclement" in Chinese history.
Today, strolling along the city walls, you can behold the ancient beauty of the capital, with the passage of a thousand years within arm's reach. You can still sense the essence of its former glory.
The wall has now become the city's symbol, offering a sense of security for Nanjing's people.
Walking along the Liberation Gate, I believe this is the most beautiful section of the city wall. Take a visit to the City Wall Museum in the southern part of the city—though lesser-known, it is a hidden gem, offering a glimpse of Nanjing's past and present through the walls.
I've always felt that Nanjing is not a city meant for hurried sightseeing. If you're someone who rushes through, you won't truly appreciate its beauty. So, how should one explore? By wandering leisurely, moving at your own pace, stopping where you wish. Walking along the city wall is a wonderful idea.
