It's my first time doing a face paint. I've been learning how to do makeup on women, but I've not tried creating designs on the face before with paint materials. So for this challenge, I decided to paint a tiger on the face of my little friend. You may laugh at the painting because it's not giving the fierce look of a tiger, but it's just perfect. Can't you see? So how did I come up with this creativity? Because people said they'd start calling me after this perfect work.

Materials Used

I found it difficult to get a small acrylic paint in my area. The one they have is more like clay that's softened with water and does always itch the body if applied on. So I decided not to use acrylic paint for this purpose because I was applying this on someone else's skin. In my own skin, the paint usually itches me. It doesn't cause skin reactions, but that itching could have made the whole process so unbearable.

So I decided to improvise my materials, and I actually brought a permanent marker but didn't use it on the boy because he said his skin usually reacts to permanent marker. So these were the materials I used.

  • Brown concealer paint for make-up

  • Paintbrush

  • Eye pencil instead of marker

  • Powder

  • Pink lip gloss

  • Soft foams for application

  • Hand fan to dry the makeup

  • Chair for my client to sit down

In this painting, I improvised a lot of materials for several reasons, one of which is skin reactions or irritation and the other is that those are what I have readily available. My paintbrush isn't a direct paintbrush because it wouldn't have worked with the kind of paint I was using.

Steps on how I did this painting, which is an art.
  • Painting isn't that easy, especially when it comes with designs. It needs careful consideration and focus so that a mistake won't be made. I allowed my friend to wash his face in clean running water and then dried it up using a soft foam. This is to prevent dirt on the face from becoming a big part of the painting.

  • I then tested some of my materials on the boy's body, a part of his hand, and discovered that permanent marker doesn't like his skin. I didn't use it.
  • I then applied light powder on his face before rubbing the concealer paint on his face, and I did that all over his face in dots. This is the concealer most women use to hide dark spots on their faces or even their ugly looks. That's why you see them so beautiful with makeup. I then used my flat, soft foam to spread the concealer around his face, leaving me with the result as shown below.

  • I wanted to make a tiger, so I was looking at the painting of someone and then did mine. After spreading the concealer on his face for his face to become yellow, I made the concealer's color blend perfectly by using another kind of foam called a sponge. This sponge highlights the color and doesn't make it obvious that there's wear and tear.

  • After blending the color, I started with the nose because it was already dry on his face. I used my eyeliner, which is black, to paint this nose and nose bridge. It would have been prominent with a color or permanent marker, but he said it would react to his skin. I then designed the nose and used a red lip gloss to coat the nose area.

  • After painting the nose, I took to one side of the face and started drawing the lines that connect to the eye. I was careful not to allow the concealer to go close to the eyes; that's why I used the white powder in his brow area and the eye pencil close to the eyes to make it black. I made the painting with so much care to avoid making mistakes. I drew the marks and then put whiskers holes by the sides and painted the lips to make them align with those of the whiskers.

  • After drawing the connective lines together, I focused on the beard and made it white with my powder and the concealer brush. I then used my eyeliner pencil to create the jaw of the tiger. One side was successfully done. Doing the other part and the forehead was a problem. .
  • The forehead was where the main work was because it needed my close-range attention to drawing lines and making it straight and unique. I made the lines look like a spider with multiple legs. After conquering my forehead, I then used the painting tools on the second side of the face. I did the same thing and was done with the painting. I added my whiskers and reapplied the eye pencil on the lines again to make it outstanding.

  • After the makeup was done, we took photographs and had some funny and memorable moments together. We even started behaving like lions. The pictures include me as the painted artist.

Do you agree painting is an art?

I do believe painting is an art because it portrays something, and my using these paints changed the face of the boy. It involved close-range attention and focus to produce a good outcome, the same with anything concerning art. It requires attention to details. Now, as you saw me paint, most people would have used a pencil to make the tiger artwork, but I'm using paint to depict this imagery.

So undoubtedly, painting is an art because it gives attention to color and texture and it's beautiful. Art is beautiful as well. Art conveys emotions, and so does painting convey emotions. It makes the viewer appreciate the work even more than the physical form or when seeing it on pictures. So if I'm painting, I'm doing art with my paint.

_In conclusion, painting is a visual art.

Your experience about the face painting??

You know when you're doing something for the first time, you're bound to make mistakes. I did make some mistakes, but not as bad as I thought they would have been. I actually doubted myself in doing this at first but then said I should give it a try.

During the painting process, I had problems with my client keeping his head steady. You know all these children. Once they see something that catches their attention, they'll turn to look. But I still commend him because other children wouldn't have stayed such a long time while being painted. I also had difficulty drawing the lines well, but I did scribble it so that it would look perfect.

Even after painting the first side, I wanted to give up, but I just had to complete what I started. When it was done, I smiled at myself in amazement and said, "Is this what I created?" It was so beautiful. I was very happy that my hard work did pay off.

Some may find it hard to do this challenge, but I'm encouraging you that it's not as difficult as you think. The eyes may deceive you until you must have tried it yourself. My experience was the best and the first of its kind.
